Madra Monday

Madra Monday

The October Bank Holiday might have been a little rainy, but nothing could dampen our spirits! We had such a fantastic day meeting gorgeous dogs and their fabulous owners!

We had the most wonderful time welcoming all the gorgeous dogs to our Leader tent on the Parade in Kilkenny city! Our Leader tents was packed full of delicious treats for all the pups and our expert team were on hand to answer all your pet nutrition questions. Our Leader playground was also a firm favourite amongst our pawsome friends and featured our puissance jumps, our hoops and Leader drawbridge.

We kicked off the day on the main stage with our expert panel. Our hostess with the mostest, Tracy Millea got to meet and chat with Vicki Rhodes and Suzi. Vicki Rhodes is a vet, and she was on hand to answer any questions about your animals healthy and different things pet owners should look out for. Suzi, otherwise known as The Dog Centre Kilkenny, is an accomplished dog trainer who emphasizes positive, incentive-based training and she was able to give you helpful advice on how to train your pooch and also answer the ‘why is my dog doing this?’ questions.

The main event on the day was the Madra Monday dog show and to say the competition was tough is an understatement. We had over 60 dogs from all over the country take part in our dog show in a range of categories including Most Pawsome Puppy, Best Rescue Dog, Best Fancy, Best Treat Catcher, and our judges, Marian, and Suzy from the Savour Kilkenny Festival, had a tough job picking the winners. Hayley, the Golden Retriever, took top prize in the overall best in show and no one could deny, she truly was best in show.

We were so delighted to team up with PAWS Animal Rescue once again with 100% of the processed of the dog show going to them. PAWS Animal Rescue was founded in 1997 with the mission of saving homeless and abandoned animals, particularly dogs from high-kill shelters and owners who are unable to care for them. Based in Mullinahone, Tipperary, PAWS has found loving homes for hundreds of dogs throughout the last 25 years.

We had such a blast at Madra Monday, and we want to say a big Thank You to the droves of lovely owners and their gorgeous dogs who helped make this a day to remember!

No, human shampoo can irritate your dog’s skin. Always use a dog-specific hypoallergenic shampoo to keep their skin healthy.

Start with short grooming sessions, use a grooming mitt instead of a brush, and reward your dog with treats. If necessary, consider using a calming supplement to help them relax.

Shaving your dog is generally not recommended unless it’s for medical reasons, as it can lead to sunburn and skin damage. If your dog’s coat is matted or they have a skin condition, consult a professional groomer.
