Carlow native and stylist Marietta Doran joined podcaster and Irish personality James Kavanagh to take on the challenging task of selecting the winners of this year’s Best-Dressed Competition. With three titles up for grabs — Best-Dressed Lady, Best-Dressed Gentleman and, in honour of Valentine’s Day, Best-Dressed Couple — the standard was exceptionally high.

As RED MILLS Day coincided with Valentine’s Day, the romantic new Best-Dressed Couple category was introduced, adding an extra layer of glamour and fun to the celebrations. Marietta and James kept a close eye on race-day fashion throughout the day, seeking looks that were not only chic and stylish but also practical for the cold February weather.
Taking home the Best-Dressed Lady title was Lexi Sherpert from Dallas, Texas, who revealed she relocated to Ireland after “snagging herself a Kilkenny man.” Lexi wowed the judges in a striking checkered cape and trouser co-ord, paired with bold red leather gloves and a playful heart-shaped bag — a fitting nod to the Valentine’s theme. A black feathered fedora completed her polished ensemble.

Second place in the ladies’ category went to Tina Hemlock, whose outfit was a masterclass in creativity and coordination. She paired a Paul Costelloe blouse with a Karen Millen coat and showcased her own millinery talent with a headpiece from her brand, Elizabeth Christina Designs. Adding a deeply personal and sustainable touch, Tina crafted her waistcoat using her husband’s ties — an innovative detail that particularly impressed the judges.
In the gentlemen’s category, Stephen Kennedy claimed top honours with a classic tweed look elevated by subtle fox-themed detailing incorporated into his buttons and tailoring — a clever and cohesive interpretation of countryside style.

Meanwhile, the Best-Dressed Couple award went to Dawn and Richard, who embraced sustainability with flair. From Richard’s impeccably tailored three-piece suit to their bold colour-clashing combinations, the duo delivered what could only be described as “Racing Barbie” energy — proving that eco-conscious fashion can still be playful, polished and full of personality.
Beyond the competition, racegoers visiting the Style Quarter were treated to a series of fashion showcases featuring the latest exclusive collections from the RED MILLS Store in Kilkenny. Hosted by Marietta Doran, who was on hand throughout the day offering expert style advice, the event was a fashion lover’s dream. A pop-up shop from redmillsstore.ie ensured that those inspired by the day’s looks could indulge in a little retail therapy — the perfect finishing touch to a truly stylish occasion.
